ANTIQUES QUARTER MURAL & ART WORK PROJECTS
Abbeydale, Nether Edge, Heeley & Sharrow Area – INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS
You may have noticed some of the artwork that is appearing in the area of your school around the Antiques Quarter and we would love all our local schools to get involved in our Mural & Artwork trail and projects.
We feel committed to community cohesion and are major stakeholders in the Community Partnership for the Abbeydale, Heeley, Sharrow and Nether Edge areas of the city. We know schools have a hugely important role to play and have so much to offer in terms of community cohesion and also in tacking anti-social behaviour related concerns – now and in the future. We feel strongly that the schools’ role and interaction in their community can really help to bring the community together and that this is crucial for the area to become a unique, vibrant, exciting and safer place to live, work and play.
No contribution would be too little. In fact, any contribution and addition to the art trail by your school can be made at any time and the art trail will have it’s own blog and website that will be ongoing and hopefully a fun and multi-layered resource for you now and in the future.
What: is it all about
We are asking artists, local young people, community groups, schools, local businesses and residents to get involved our projects and also our yearly street art day in the antiques quarter as part of the development of the art trail throughout the quarter and to contribute to this vibrant area of the city.
Why: get involved
- Put your stamp on the area
- It’s your area this is a great way to show it
- Encourage community cohesion
- Tackle asb and current issues of graffiti
- Enhance the area and make it a more vibrant place to be
Who: Businesses and Residents & Schools
We are asking businesses and local residents for permission to use exterior walls, shop shutters, or any small space that they might like to see painted with a mural, board with artwork or sculpture. They may even like to commission a street artist working with local young people to design, paint artwork on shutters or walls not only adding to the vibrancy and feel of the area but also advertising your business and reducing graffiti and asb.
A great way to liven up the community and get local people keeping their eyes open.
We are looking for all local schools to get on board and put their stamp on the area whether it is developing a planter in the area growing veg or flowers or designing a mural or working on a project with a commissioned artist. We want local kids to know the area is theirs and take ownership and to contribute to making it a better place to be. Your involvement will help to develop an art trail that will be an exceptional learning tool for schools to use for mapping, history, environmental and art projects. With plenty of opportunity for cross curricula activities right out in the local community as part of schools’ commitment to the education policy for community engagement. Any size projects even the smallest will be welcome.
Developing the Art Trail
We are planning for projects to have plaques mounted to celebrate involvement by local people and artists, as well as any sponsorship received. They will give details of the artists and project as well as any sponsors names. and your project will be added to the online art trail which will be available in printed form and also online to download from the mural and artwork website. Soon to be found here http://www.saqartproject.co.uk/(in development)
We would be delighted to hear from you – please let us know if you have any ideas or if you want to get involved…
kind regards Hendrika Stephens
